The Clinton Bush Haiti Fund's grant to Architecture for Humanity helped establish the Haitian Rebuilding Center in Port-au-Prince, which serves as a one-stop shop for professional design and construction services.
The grant is enabling Haitian small and growing businesses to participate in post-earthquake reconstruction and ensure rebuilding incorporates better design and engineering. Smaller Haitian construction firms are benefiting from the Center as they engage in the large-scale reconstruction projects currently underway.
These building projects are providing skills training to Haitian professionals, contributing to both short-term and long-term economic growth. With support from the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund, Architecture for Humanity is on its way to putting more than 5,000 Haitians back to work. It will leave a lasting legacy for economic prosperity by evolving the Rebuilding Center into a local economic development agency after three to five years.
Program Update
In October 2011, Architecture for Humanity launched its "Bati Byen" consumer awareness campaign to encourage "building back better." From billboards to radio, Architecture for Humanity's campaign aims to improve safety for all Haitians. It promotes demand for safer schools, factories, and schools, particularly by building to international standards and seismic codes. The AfH Haitian Rebuilding Center is providing the design and engineering skills to make "building back better" possible.

Why We Invested in Architecture for Humanity
Clinton Bush Haiti Fund's grant to Architecture for Humanity reflects our commitment to helping restart, expand, and create sustainable small and growing Haitian businesses — especially in the construction sector — that can leave a lasting legacy in Haiti.

About Architecture for Humanity
Architecture for Humanity is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit design services firm founded in 1999 which seeks to build a more sustainable future through the power of professional design. By tapping a network of more than 40,000 professionals willing to lend time and expertise to help those who would not otherwise be able to afford their services, they bring design, construction, and development services where they are most critically needed.
Each year 10,000 people directly benefit from structures designed by Architecture for Humanity, and their advocacy, training, and outreach programs impact an additional 50,000 people annually. They channel the resources of the global funding community to meaningful projects that make a difference locally. From conception to completion, Architects for Humanity manages all aspects of the design and construction process. Their clients include community groups, aid organizations, housing developers, government agencies, corporate divisions, and foundations.
